Depending on your organization and your state of operation, there may be a requirement to update and publish a reserve study regarding your preparedness for future expenditures on an annual basis. Vlge provides advanced framework for tracking and updating these funds, and the status of your long term assets.
Note: Requires Admin or Board access
Steps to Run a Reserve Study
Go to Financial Dashboard → click the new Reserve Studies card
Create a reserve study (name it, set a study date, inflation rate, interest rate)
Click Sync Assets — this automatically pulls in all your capital assets that are flagged for reserve planning, and calculates their future replacement cost, annual funding need, and how consumed they are
See a funding health dashboard showing:
Current reserve balance vs. what it should be (fully funded target)
A funding rating: Weak / Fair / Strong / Overfunded
Annual reserve need across all components
Which components are due for replacement within 5 years
Click Activate to make a study the "official" version (the previous active study gets archived automatically)
Download a PDF report suitable for a board meeting — includes executive summary, funding overview, full component inventory, major expenditures coming up, and recommendations
See a 30-year projection table showing how the reserve fund grows or shrinks each year given current assumptions, and run "What If?" scenarios - e.g. "what happens if we increase contributions by $20k/year?"
Inputs:
Input the value of each Asset as well as its replacement year or total life + start date
Add the replacement cost today (or the investment needed to renew the asset at the end of life date). Example: Community-owned Roads - The roads would not be completely replaced but rather resurfaced or major replacement of sections. Enter the value of that major work not full replacement
Current Balance for reserves - Vlge pulls from your designated reserve account, but if you have changed the categorization or have multiple accounts, enter the value you would share as the total reserve balance today.
Interest and inflation assumptions
👉 Output will show the progress toward's funding as well as a 30-year outlook.
