Technical Effort: 7/10
You should be familiar with DNS Settings at your Domain host in order to complete this task.
What is a "Domain Host" - also known as a "Domain provider" - this is where you bought your domain name. Likely Cloudflare, GoDaddy, Wix, Squarespace or another provider similar. If you have not yet purchased a domain name, we highly recommend Cloudflare for the purchase.
Step 1:
Find the "Settings" in the Website builder
Step 2:
Scroll down and find "Custom Domain" - this is where you will enter the exact domain that you want pointed to your vlge-hosted website.
Enter the domain name and click "Connect"
You will see the below instructions. Now login to your DNS host or provider and find your DNS Settings that allow you to "Create" a CNAME record.
Vlge tries to lookup your DNS provider, and when found, will pre-select the provider to give you exact instructions for how to set your CNAME as well as provide a link to the help documentation.
NOTE: As these are 3rd parties and they do update their processes, be aware that these do change at times without Vlge being notified. Our team works hard to stay up to date with the latest information.
Once connected, you will see the below:
Troubleshooting:
Q) I have added the CNAME but the domain is still not connected
A) While rare, these DNS records can take up to 24 hours to "resolve" or propogate across the internet. Browsers often "cache" this information, so you could try incognito or private browsing to see if that shows up faster.
Test your DNS: https://dnschecker.org/
Q) I do not know who my DNS provider is and Vlge is not detecting it
A) Use the DNS Checker tool above and try DNS Lookup
Look at the sample results below. Owner shows Cloudflare which is the DNS provider for this domain.
